Congratulations on getting to Nottingham, a great City and excellent University . This section will tell you a little bit about The University of Nottingham Health Service and how to register with the service when you arrive in Nottingham.
Many young people when living away from home do not immediately think about registering with a doctor, however it is really important that you do register with a local practice You will then know where to turn if ill and it ensures your health records are available and can be used to give you the best care. You may also have non-illness related health issues and we can then help you with these (see below for examples).
We believe that registering with the University of Nottingham Health Service is an excellent choice for many reasons. We are a practice with a long history specialising in the health needs of students at Nottingham. We work very closely with the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Students Union and this ensures that we are continually developing our services to meet your health and academic requirements. |
The practice is based within Cripps Health Centre, in the middle of University Park (the main campus) and so this gives good geographical access from internal halls of residence and other off-campus accommodation, when using University facilities day-to-day. There are 9 doctors at the practice as well as a full compliment of other staff including our practice nurses, midwife and health visitor. Also linked to the practice are a physiotherapist, mental health support worker, mental health nurse and sexual health promotion worker.
Services on offer include not only dealing with illnesses, but help with healthy living, contraception, gynaecology and sexual health services (including testing for sexually-transmitted infections), travel and tropical medicine, dealing with mental health issues, sports medicine, minor surgery, dermatology and acupuncture.
We are open all day Monday – Friday and we can be contacted by either coming to the health centre, by phone or via the Internet (details on main pages)..

In addition because we are aware of the pressures of modern academic life we have developed a number of web-based services; on line booking of appointments, repeat prescription ordering and registering changes of address. In addition to these and because we are conscious of students changing location, we have partnered with pharmacy-2-U to provide postal prescriptions, available via the phone or internet and delivered by secure mail to any address chosen by the patient. |
