UNICOM and commissioning

The practice belongs to the NHS practice based commissioning body called UNICOM HEALTHCARE. This organisation sets out to ensure that patients receive the best healthcare in the most appropriate geographical and chronological environments. It is specifically geared to the needs of staff and students of the University of Nottingham.

Clinical Commissioning

The University of Nottingham Health Service( UNHS) is part of NHS Nottingham City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which has a key role in commissioning (that is the planning, buying and assessing performance of ) local health services. This new organisation ( which came about because of recent NHS changes and is a government pathfinder) includes all 62 practices within the City and  has the same boundaries as the City council

The CCG consists of 5 clusters ( groups of practices) underneath the executive, one of which is called UNICOM and UNHS is part of this grouping ( along with two practices run by Nottingham Emergency Medical Services)

By being part of this organisation we are able to give voice to the health needs of students within the local NHS, and fight to ensure that services are commissioned which address key student health needs - such as sexual health and contraception services, mental health support and sports medicine and injury services

In addition in early 2011 Dr Hugh Porter   was elected Chair of NHS Nottingham City Clinical Commissionng Group, and spends half his time in this role, both helping shape this new organisation and leading on several areas of service development ( such as emergency and urgent care)
